Ride for the River is more than just a bike ride with friends and family; it’s an opportunity to learn about the Ausable River Association (AsRA) and the difference we’re making for our streams and lakes. And it’s a gathering celebrating the resilience of our communities inaugurated in 2012, the year after Tropical Storm Irene ripped through our communities. So why ride for the river? The countryside around Wilmington, NY, offers all of this for road cyclists and will be offering it up with special bonuses during the Ride for the River weekend on July 17-18.
Our ride spot this month takes us to the Essex Chain of Lakes south of Newcomb. It’s hard to believe today that for a century this area was a bustling logging operation and off limits to the public.

It’s been a long time coming, but the Adirondack Rail Trail between Lake Placid and Tupper Lake is finally becoming a reality. Construction of the 34-mile trail began in September of last year and has started with the removal of rails and ties along the trail route.
