NYBC Expands Safety Work
Great news from New York Bicycling Coalition!
NYBC provides bicycle safety education across New York State by developing original educational materials and delivering bicycle safety and law training to law enforcement and traffic safety partners across the state. In recent years, this education has focused extensively on e-bike and e-scooter information to respond to the growing popularity of e-mobility and the evolving - and often confusing - legal landscape around e-bikes.
New York State’s Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee significantly increased funding for this NYBC work for the upcoming year.
The increased funding will support:
Offering more education geared towards children and their parents/guardians including a new series of materials. Part 1 of the series “Teach a Child How to Ride!” is available now on the NYBC website; organizations can request bulk orders of this pamphlet and other educational materials here, or you can print materials on your own here.
Providing better service for areas in central and western New York. To support this work, NYBC is hiring a bicycle safety educator for the region. If you or someone you know is interested in a part time position developing bicycle safety materials and delivering bicycle safety education in communities west of Utica, spread the word! More information at nybc.net/careers.
Piloting our e-bike training materials to help students be safer on high school and university campuses. We are seeking schools, universities, and other partners who might want to work with us - perhaps by providing access to secure e-bike storage for students who successfully complete our e-bike training quiz.
NYBC’s work under the GTSC grant has steadily grown in recent years, reaching traffic safety partners across the state with critical bicycle safety information. We’d love to connect with you! Reach out to us at safety@nybc.net.
